Spencer’s Officially A Teenager - Argh!!

Well, it finally happened, Spencer celebrated his 13th birthday on the 19th. He’s officially a teenager (I can’t believe it) and exhibiting signs of teenage communication (if that’s what you call it). I’ll settle for a grunt right now, or a roll of the eyes, or a, “Maaaaaam!” said in a sing-song, exasperated voice. Nana managed a couple of pictures.

As always, he was lavished with gifts. Nana took him to town on his birthday and treated him to breakfast, a pedicure (which he wasn’t really sure about until after he’d sat in the massage chair with his feet in a warm whirlpool for 45 minutes), and new clothes and shoes. He promply spent some of the money Auntie Gail gave while listening to tunes on his new iPod from mom and dad. Spoiled, spoiled, spoiled… And of course, he’d already spent the gift card from Auntie Cheryl when we were in town on Sunday. So, yes, he’s definitely a modern boy with modern tastes. I keep telling him it will be a rude awakening when he enters the work force and sees how much everything costs and has to earn it for himself. He’s learning that now after the fact while I gleen 50 hours of hard-labor in the yard as pay-back for his trip to Portland over Easter break!! Nonetheless, he’s still a good, loving boy with a great sense of humor, and an easy-going nature. Hope it all stays that way!! He cracked us up the other morning. Michael and I were talking about song writing, and how we feel God has blessed us with some worship songs, and how could we go about producing those songs, when all of a sudden Spencer pipes up with a very serious look on his face that he’d been blessed with a song too. Our heads snapped around and we both exclaimed at the same time with surprise, “What is it?!” He proceeded to put his hands to his mouth and mimed playing an instrument while making exact sounds of the Australian Digeree Doo. We all laughed ourselves silly. A little levity is always good for the soul. :o We’re having fun together!
